Leukoma, corneal staphyloma

Leukoma is a dense, opaque, white opacity of the cornea.  The term staphyloma refers to the opacification of the cornea.   This little girl appears to be completely blind.  Prospective families will need to discuss issues with an ophthalmologist.  It should be noted that leukoma can be associated with other health problems.  She is described by her caretakers as relating well, smart, and able to recite poems.  She enjoys singing and helping other children.  Grant funding in the amount of $13,600 is available for the adoption of this child.

VSD is a  heart abnormality, developed before birth, in which there is a hole in the septum (partition) between the left and right sides of the heart.  Septal defect varies in its effects according to the size and position of the defect.  A review of this child's Chinese medical information by a U.S. pediatrician indicates that he is developing nicely, but may require corrective surgery.  Any family interested in this child should present his medical information to a cardiologist for opinion.

This pre-school aged child, who entered the orphanage at birth, is described by his caretakers as an active, lovely, smart boy who is good at playing nursery rhymes.  He is able to count to 20 and is talking in sentences and has appeared to have normal development, excluding his heart condition.  He can catch a ball, climb stairs, and is fond of reading and music.  Grant funding in the amount of $11,500 is available for the adoption of this child.

This baby boy is described by his caretakers as having good health and development and has having Hypospadias.  Hypospadias is a congenital defect, occurring in about 1 in 300 males babies, in which the urethra is situated on the underside of the shaft of the penis.  Single stage operations to correct Hypospadias are available today.  Generally Hypospadia can be corrected with only one surgery in 90% or more cases.  Occasionally a second surgery is necessary.
